RM of Baildon’s story
The Rural Municipality of Baildon No. 131 lies in south-central Saskatchewan, south of Moose Jaw. It was incorporated as a rural municipality on December 9, 1912.
Within its boundaries are the Cactus Hills and a number of communities and localities: Archive, Baildon, Buttress, Crestwynd, Leakville, Levuka and Tilney.
One of the best-known attractions here is the Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village and Museum. The Diefenbaker House, the childhood home of Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, now stands at the museum. The house was built in 1912 and bought in 1947 by Diefenbaker and his then wife Edna. It was originally in Prince Albert, and it was closed in 2001 and moved to the Sukanen museum in 2004.
Today the RM is run by an elected council and an appointed administrator, with its office in Moose Jaw.
